House cooling party

November 24th, 2008 · No Comments

We were never able to hold a housewarming party when we moved to this apartment three years ago. But now, instead, we have a “house cooling” party. It was initially planned to be an afternoon party but we ended up saying goodbye to our last set of guests at around 1 in the morning. It was indeed an exhausting day. We started early by going to the grocery to buy snacks and drinks then later went to my inlaws house. MrC’s brother went with along with us. Later, MrC’s Dad came. His mother was not really feeling at ease with crowds so she didn’t attend. It was an early winter and it was the first time that it snowed in the Netherlands. The first set of guests came quite late, something like 5pm. Some of the questions include what I will do there and what led us to decide to do this. If you also have this question, the answers to this can be found by starting with the few entries of this blog which I started in February this year. Some commented I wanted to leave the Netherlands because I didn’t want to learn Dutch.. partly true! ;-)
We also showed some photos of our last trip to the Philippines. Many of them have no idea what the Philippines is really like.

Everyone wished us good luck, and we said our goodbyes.

Right now, I just found sometime in between packing, and making calls. Since last week, I have been making calls to my Mom in the Philippines everyday. She has been helping us find an apartment. Today, we found something good and we agreed to take it. It’s a two bedroom apartment in a condominium next to a shopping mall and lots of office around. Tomorrow, my mom will pay one month deposit to reserve it. It was interesting to note that the owner lives here in the Netherlands. My mom had suggested we call him to at least maybe get a better price but we decided we were too busy and overwhelmed with tasks to call. In the end, we just accepted the offer.

I am still finalizing the list again to be sent to the shipper. Also, we are going to hire a broker in the Philippines to take care of our paperwork there. Since I am a Former Filipino, I am supposed the personal household goods I am bringing to the Philippines should be tax and duty free. We have sold my car to MrC’s friend and some remaining furniture like cabinets and coffee table is now in Marktplaats (online auction/second hand selling site).

From Friday to Saturday we would be renting a moving van. On Friday, we bring all the goods for shipping over to the shipper and the rest to the storage. The winter clothes are now in storage.
